About Ryu Takahashi

Ryu is a photographer/conceptual artist. He is a 1st prize award winner of Marlborough Museum Steampunk Portrait Challenge 2019.

He was originally from Japan and immigrated to New Zealand in 1998. He bought his first digital camera and Photoshop just before coming to NZ and realized that digital photography was the future. So he abandoned films immediately and completely shifted to digital, when most people in NZ had never even seen a digital camera.

He worked as a seakayak guide in Abel Tasman National Park for 10 years, where he developed his eagle eyes to the beauty of Mother Nature. And he has been an art lover since very young, especially surrealism. This background created his unique style today.

He is the only team member of PHLEARN (website, YouTube Channel) from New Zealand. He works as a part of Community Services Team and helps people from all over the world to learn Photoshop skills.

Why called 'Dragon Phart'?

'Ryu (龍)' means 'dragon' in Japanese.

'Phart' is a made-up word by Ryu, combining Photo & Art.

What is the expertise of Dragon Phart Studio?

It is said that a professional photographer/artist should have an expertise and shouldn't say 'I can do anything'.

Well, it might be true in a big city, but the population here is less than ten thousand, it's just a village rather than a town. So, you know what we'll say.

Let us know what you'd like and we'll do our best on anything to help you!
